Women Build Week
Women Build Week will bring together women from all walks of life to address in a concrete way the housing crisis facing millions of women and children across the globe. The more funds we can raise and the more people we can train to become effective volunteers, the better equipped we will be to fight poverty housing.
Across all 50 states, more than 7,000 women volunteers are building and raising the funding needed to build affordable homes at more than 200 Habitat for Humanity construction sites.
Women Build Week helps Habitat serve more families. The Mother’s Day timeframe was selected for its significance to many volunteers, as families with children make up a staggering number of those in need of adequate housing. More than 12 million children—one in six—live in poverty housing in the United States alone. To date, Women Build crews have built more than 1,400 Habitat homes nationwide.
Why should your women’s groups participate?
This is great opportunity for Orlando women to show that they can hammer, saw, sand, paint and drill with the best of the men!!! The need for affordable housing has never been greater. It fulfills an important community need and provides networking and teambuilding at the same time. In addition, there will be positive media and public relations exposure for participating women’s groups.
Women Build Week is scheduled for May 3-9, 2010. There are volunteer opportunities associated with sponsorship levels.
